Project Background
Can you combine 4 student styles into a single brand?
This was a project that came as a curveball for most of us. We all had fun making our two (out of three) projects over the spring semester be as wacky and out there as we could. Making a functional piece of jewelry and a felt sneaker? We had a great time, until we realized we had to combine our projects under the same brand for our third project—creating an exhibition design.
Packaging in Flux Exhibition
This exhibition was done in a group of four, and it is a display of our jewelry and shoe projects. We created a brand that housed the various products we created over the semester. The products were to be displayed along with packaging. We chose to design our packaging to be completely reusable or recyclable, as sustainability was a major component of our brand. We wanted to keep it as natural as possible, all the while reflecting change and movement that represented our brand “Flux”.
Change is inevitable. Looking back at your life from five years ago, or maybe just even a month ago, you were a different person then and a different person now. Life brings about movement and new experiences, and with that: change. Our brand, Flux, is inspired by this constant ebb and flow of daily life. Many of our products are targeted towards people in different parts of their journeys, but all keeping in mind that they are moving, changing, and stepping into the future.

Concept Development
Keeping it earthy and sustainable
For our Shoe packaging, we wanted to utilize the same base design, with different motifs, to differentiate between different shoe lines. We added a linen tote bag that would double as a shoe box carrier and a general handbag. We later chose to create a unifying design for the totes, and have the special motifs for each shoe laser-etched on the side.
The jewelry boxes would be made out of chipboard boxes, with our brand etched. They would be wrapped in brown paper and sealed with a wax seal and twine.
Packaging for jewelry
As a champion for movement and change, our jewelry line aims to make your journey easy and smooth. Our pieces are utilitarian and attractive; by combining a functional tool with an aesthetic piece of jewelry, you are able to travel with less things to carry, and less things to worry about. The Utile Earcuff was designed by me, while the other three jewelry pieces were designed by my teammates. The jewelry comes in wrapped elegantly with twine and a wax seal, and includes an instruction pamphlet in a chipboard box.

Packaging for Sneakers
Your feet take you from one destination to another, one experience to the next. Our sneakers reflect that journey, however unique your path may be. Surge, Crest, Glide, and Float are all different ways to move on from place to place. We encourage you to find your style and define the way you want to move to tomorrow. I designed the Glide sneakers, while the other three were designed by my teammates. The sneakers come in a reusable branded tote bag with decorated chipboard charms and shoe boxes, and an instructional pamphlet.
